We have arrived at Bangkok and are settled in to a
very comfortable hotel. After the men had consumed an enormous amount
of beer they joined the ladies who had settled in the bar alongside
the splendid swimming pool. No one wanted to move so Padoong ordered a
wonderful selection of food for us all for our supper.
The three bachelor boys support each other on the
other side of the pool.
While the ladies get tucked into the food. After the
meal the men went exploring into the town. No guesses where they might
have ended up.
Honest, Joyce and Brenda, I did look after them as
best I could.
Monday 12th. We visited the ancient capital city of
Ayutthaya where we first visited the temple and saw this enormous
reclining Buddha
Inside the temple was this Buddha statue
And right inside, yet another.
Outside were the burial stupors.
The area was enormous.
Then we drove on to visit the King & Queens official
residence.
We caught our boat to cruise back along the river to
Bangkok where they had laid on a wonderful lunch for us.
Boats on the river.
Back on dry land at the Oriental Hotel which is
steeped in history, we all had cocktails to round of the afternoon.
This is the hotel where Joyce and Brenda will stay for one night
on their arrival next weekend while we fly back down to Bangkok
the next day to join them. It was here that Somerset Maughan used
to stay.
