First views of Corsica after we landed at Bonifacio and set off to drive the nearly 100 miles to Ajaccio where we are staying. The Mediterranean can be seen over the rocks. |

| Driving up into the mountains on our second day we saw quite amazing scenery though at times it was quite a difficult drive. These mountains even had snow on them |

Lovely woods, open country, the mountains and little villages like this nestling amongst them all. What a drive it was!! |

| There was a market with stalls loaded high with cheeses and cold meats. Vegetables, fruit etc. The smells were wonderful | ![]() |

Still in the old part of the town this cafe did us some real freshly pressed orange juice. It was delicious and very refreshing in the heat |
| Exploring the coast line to the south of Ajaccio we sat and gazed at more idyllic beaches with the deep blue of the Mediterranean sea |

Then drove over more mountains on our way back to Ajaccio |
| Supper on Wednesday evening. Penelope eating an enormous plate of Whitebait entirely with her fingers, and I had a whole lobster grilled. All washed down with a lovely bottle of the local Corsican, higher quality white wine, beautifully chilled. |

And so we left Corsica and sailed to Toulon
